BIOGRAPHY
industrial designer: clayton edward dibble
In a world of abundance, I believe life should be filled with meaningful items and reduce the unnecessary excess as it tends to weigh us down.
As an Industrial Designer, I focus on smart design- where the ideals of form and function complement each other to satisfy the need for a usable object.
I strive to be thoughtful and authentic with my work, allowing materials and shape to take center stage in my designs. Whenever possible, I try to work sustainably, with a continued awareness of my carbon footprint. I thrive on collaboration and try to infuse a bit of wit and humor as I create.
I hope to leave my mark on the design world so I can read about it in my next life.

Functionality, simplicity, and craftsmanship remain at the forefront of my practice.
In my twenties and thirties, my career focused on home furnishings. My twenty-two years at Crate & Barrel taught me about design, innovation, curation, and collaboration, beginning in visual merchandising, then transitioning to product development and buying.
My time at Interior Define offered a first-hand look into the startup world as I worked directly with the CEO. As Director of Merchandising and Product Development, I partnered closely with a talented industrial designer along with factory teams to take concepts and bring them to fruition. Our collaborations with Maxwell Ryan of Apartment Therapy, influencers Chris and Julia Marcum of Chris loves Julia, and fashion designer Jason Wu all developed exciting upholstery collections that quickly became top sellers. It was here that I realized I wanted to be a designer.
My passion for design and collaboration drives a curiosity and experimental side to my work. Drawing influences from the principal elements of Scandinavian design, functionality, simplicity, and craftsmanship remain at the forefront of my practice. Color, texture, and scale often make me giddy when used in clever ways. I'm inspired daily by the world around me and thrive on the connections I've made throughout the years.
